We are an export company that handles a selection of quality fruit and vegetables, grown both conventionally and organically throughout New Zealand. We are fortunate in New Zealand, to have a wonderful climate, fertile soils and an abundance of pure water. These factors combined, and the continuous innovation and ingenuity of New Zealand growers, makes our fresh produce first class.

Our commitment to customers is that all of our produce is of premium quality and is supported by an extensive quality assurance programme, incorporating the highest standards of agricultural practice and sustainable stewardship of resources. We ensure all of our produce is harvested at optimum levels, preserving nature’s finest quality with a continual focus on delivering the highest level of satisfied international customers.

History

Freshco founded in 1989, is an Auckland-based business owned and operated by John Mangan and Greig Taylor. Over the years, Freshco has grown exponentially and we now have staff based in key growing locations all over New Zealand. View Map

Our aim is to provide fresh New Zealand produce to world markets, building sustainable, ongoing, long term relationships with key customers.

Organics

Freshco helped pioneer the exporting of organic products from New Zealand. We continue to develop improved, sustainable growing practices through international contacts in organic agronomy along with our strong interest in the soil web, composting and compost tea. Freshco has established a functioning organic focus block in Hawkes Bay. This block has been specifically developed to encourage and secure organic research strategies for the future. Food Safety

Freshco has developed a proprietary, multi level, agronomy and food safety programme called Greengro™. This focuses our suppliers on sustainable growing practices, reduced chemical inputs and an ultra low residue target at harvest. Greengro™ incorporates the food safety standards and first-class agricultural practices of EUREPGAP, as well as several customer specific addendums making this a valuable tool for our growers and a welcome assurance policy for our customers. By having these practices in place, which are independently verified, our customers can be assured of the quality, integrity and safety of our produce, while being confident in the fact that the product systems that Freshco employ are both sustainable and responsible. An Integrated business

Freshco has established joint ventures with key apple and pear growers, establishing Freshco Nelson Limited in 2004 and Freshco Hawkes Bay in 2006. This company incorporates all activities of apple and pear production which includes, harvesting, packing, coolstorage, shipping and marketing, within company structure. Freshco Nelson is part owned by the growers which they serve.
