Habitat for Humanity
| Each year Freshco proudly donates towards sending an enthusiastic group of kiwis to Ethiopia (Team Kiwi). In 2009, Jackie Petter, a member of our staff joined the team – an experience she describes as ‘truly amazing’ and ‘an absolute privilege to spend time with Ethiopian people in their beautiful country’. Her trip started with a few days in Addis Ababa acclimatising and meeting local Habitat staff, visiting Hana’s orphanage and the world renowned Fistula Hospital and getting to know other team mates. They journeyed through the surprisingly lush, green Ethiopian countryside (rainy season had just finished) to the Habitat building site at Bahir Dar. In just under 2 weeks of building, the team of 14 kiwis assisted by locals built 10 homes and 1 school. Jackie describes her Habitat 4 Humanity experience as ‘so much more than just the experience of building houses for these people who have been existing in the most rudimentary shelters. It was the opportunity to be immersed in a totally different and very rich culture and to share this experience with local Ethiopians and some very cool kiwi team mates'. |
